copulation of one of the rarest butterflies in germany, even in the world? anyway, this beautiful creature is worlwide protected by the "Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)". i´m very glad that such a species lives in my homeland.

d200 - sigma 150 - f/8 - 1/10s - IS0 200

I guess if it's that endangered, it's probably a good thing they're working to produce more of them! Quite pretty butterflies, great shot of them!

one of the nicest shots I've seen of this species. It's a nice butterfly but not that rare on overall as it is found in almost every high mountain range throught Europe. However... with global warming...

WOW! Nice photo. U found it here in Germany? Where? Near your hometown? Yesterday evening there was a coverage/reportage in BR (original ORF) about Austrian countrysides where they showed this butterfly. They said it is more common in Niederösterreich because it is warmer there. It needs to heat up its body temperature to 30°C before it can fly. And the caterpillars just eat some plants of the genus 'Sedum' (Fetthenne). I think that is why it is pretty rare.

i have a nikon d200 together with a sigma 150/2.8 macro. i advise you to buy a camera with mirror-up function to reduce vibrations caused by the mirror

Thanks... Would the sigma be a good choice against a nikkor lens like the 60mm or the 105mm?

the quality is equivalent. very sharp and cheap

That is important...and the sigma's focal range is bigger which is, in fact, a huge advantage in photographing insects...
